Unity iOS Pro 3.5.5F3 - Kernel Panic under Snow Leopard.

I was just installing the latest Unity 3.5.5f3 (I had 3.5.5f1) for my OSX 10.6.8 and I went away to watch TV and when I came back, I was forced to shut down my Mac (apparently its Kernel Panic). When I reboot it explained what happened, and the error message said something about conflict between Sopho and Unity’s Interlock ktext. Could UT look into this?

PS, I never had this problem before until now.

You could also kick Sopho or ask them to finally fix the absolutely fucked up guard.
I reported this plain inacceptable missbehavior multiple times since their first incarnation was launched and they still didn’t feel like fixing it.

I had it on my machine, 3 times by now, and fact is that their solution is NOT compatible to the OSX threading behavior, they apply their Windows scan patterns which is an absolutely horrible way as it seems.
It locks threads till death, kills the finder and many other apps and is generally degrading the performance of my machine by up to 70%.

Even ESET is bad (degrading it by 30% at worst), but at least I can easily deactivate it when I want a 0 fucked environment.

And my machine is by no means weak, its the 2011 Core i7 MBP, 16GB RAM, SSD with 500mb/s throughput and sophos was able to degenerate it to a level where it ran worse than this machine ran at 4GB ram with a 5400RPM HDD

I am not aware of an OSX antivirus that works realiably and non-invasive unluckily, all non invasive offerings are laughable on their protection level.
I went with ESET cause I have a 3 machine license thats valid till 2013 from my windows side (where I switched to kaspersky after ESET started with its hyper aggressive guard that causes the thread context error in unity among other htings).
I also have Little Snitch as ‘lightweight firewall’ as the osx one is as bad as the original xp firewall was

Thanks for the reply dreamora!
Yeh, I completely agree, Sopho degrades performance. My 13" 2010 Core 2 (8600) MBP before installing was running quite speedily, and now there are some noticeable performance hit whenever I launch application. Worse still, my CPU will overheat sometimes for no apparently reason!! (Goes up to 90C which I had to force shut down)

I put up with Sopho because I just don’t want to spend money on antivirus! (I am cheap and on budget… what can I say…)
But yeh, I havn’t seen any good antivirus software for OSX so far either. I have limit my internet behavior on my MBP (my main development machine) nowadays so I only visit youtube and web email, nothing else so that sort of limit my chance of getting attack by virus.

After trying for the second time installing, this time it seems to work. No lock up, no kernel panic. It just goes smoothly as before.

I didn’t do anything different, but different result!
VERY STRANGE !! All I can say is WTF.

I have to tell you based on my Windows Antivirus experience: it’s all invasive and uses more than other processes. With Windows Security Essentials by Microsoft at least the patterns are updated daily and it’s not so buggy. Still I hardly notice it’s running.

Until Apple should do the same as Microsoft and make security a standard part of the OS distribution. Since I don’t do too many google searches and click on SEO’ed looking links I don’t have too much trouble.

I use ClamXav from the Mac AppStore. I haven’t seen any incompatibility issues or noticed a slowdown.

Thanks for the info Jaimi! I had a look at ClamXav before, but I thought they are dodgy (shady)…
