Unity iPhone 3 professional

How much are the total cost to upgrade from unity iphone pro 2 to unity iphone pro 3?
Do I have to get Unity pro 3 upgrade at €370.00 + Unity iPhone pro 3 at how much?

or is there a total price that I don’t see?

https://store.unity3d.com/shop/

Upgrade to Unity Pro 3.x from Unity Pro 2.x €370.00
Upgrade to Unity Pro 3.x from Unity Pro 1.x €740.00
Upgrade to Unity Pro 3.x from Unity iPhone 3.x €880.00
Upgrade to iPhone Pro 3.x from iPhone 3.x €660.00
Existing Unity 3.x Pro with iPhone license required

Yeah, i don´t get it either.

The info page states unity3 will have the option to export to everything, including iPhone.

But then there is an offer of Unity iPhone Pro 3… so, what now?

Jesus, how complicated can it become…

Why don´t they just sell unity pro and then let´s say export packs…

let´s say:

Unity Pro 3 = 1000,-- Euro

Exportpack iPhone = 500,–
Exportpack Wii = 500,–

You missunderstood the statement.

It will be 1 editor by Unity 3, right.
But each platform on top of web - windows - osx will be an own addon as it was previously. Unity iPhone Pro, like currently iPhone Advanced, is an addon to Unity Pro 3.x only

as for the original question: to see the real prices, choose the upgrade to unity pro 3.x from pro 2. or unity 2.x and then insert your current license. the shop then will show you the actual price for the combined upgrade.

unity pro 2.x + iphone advanced + asset server upgrade to unity pro 3.x + iphone pro 3.x + asset server is $1100 for example.

your prices as EU customer are likely higher unless you have a VAT number to avoid paying the vat

yeah i found the this http://www.marketwire.com/press-release/Unity-Technologies-Unveils-Third-Generation-of-Its-Powerful-Development-Platform-1128176.htm and another thread, which clarified the situation.

In 3.0 we have new names for iPhone.
iPhone Basic is now simply iPhone.
iPhone Advanced is now known as iPhone Pro

“Unity iPhone 3.x” is what in the good old days would have been called “Unity Indie with iPhone Basic”

So “Upgrade to Unity Pro 3.x from Unity iPhone 3.x” allows you to take your existing Unity free + iPhone Basic, now simply called Unity iPhone and upgrade it to Unity Pro and keep the iPhone license unchanged.

Same with Upgrade to iPhone Pro 3.x from iPhone 3.x.
This one allows you to take an Unity Pro + iPhone (Basic) and upgrade the iPhone part to iPhone Pro.

We’re now rethinking the readability of the page.

OK, so as long as I am using iPhone basic / iPhone i will have to pay 150 (or 100 as early adopter) for the upgrade right?

exited about the new features, little less exited about the upgrade pricing, hope the discount will stay another month or so until it’s out of the beta.

with the release in the summer you have 3-5 montsh to get together the EA fee and save 33%

Kinda pissed that I had to shell out $300 for indie and I wont get some sort of credit for a 3.x upgrade to pro within a year. I was kinda angry that I payed $300 for something that is now free, but adding a heap load of more money to upgrade within a year is kinda wrong.

  1. indie was $199, not $300
  2. You got a credit. $150 additional upgrade reduction if you upgraded to pro / iphone basic before end of 09 … but it seems like you didn’t make use of it.

independent of both: obviously you enjoyed at least 1 free updated with new features like the animation editor during your ownership and I doubt you are that unhappy about it otherwise you wouldn’t have invested $199 at the start. if you compare stuff against “how little it could have been” you better don’t buy any software but especially no hardware, as you will never stand a chance to be happy …

also you forget that you will get unity 3 for free which without indie being replaced through unity would have cost you an upgrade fee too.

so all in all you saved quite some cash

You are correct that it only cost $199 for indie and that was my bad, but the point I was trying to make is that if I bought photshop CS and I wanted to upgrade to CS4 I get a discount for having been a previously paying customer. Hell you even get a $100 discount off the full version if you bought photoshop elements 4.0 and that was released in 2005.

To compare software upgrades to hardware upgrades is like comparing apples to oranges because hardware prices depreciate rapidly over several months, case in point is CPU’s. When intel chips first come out they cost 100%. After a few months they can drop as much as 40% as manufacturing picksup and costs drop. That just seems like it is never the case with software, except maybe the $5 games bin in your local megamart.

The point I was trying to make it yes I didn’t take advantage of the reduced upgrade costs to pro in december. Mainly because we had just bought the license a few months before nor were we at the stage were we could profit from it in our development cycle. Also the costs were pretty high to upgrade at the time and I would have had to kick in several extra thousand to buy it and iphone advanced out of my own pocket which went to my artist instead. But it would be nice to be somehow considered for the investment people did make when it was for sale several months ago.

thats why there was the double price reduction (not just the normal indie reduction but an addition $150 reduction).
people that have had it bought immediately upfront that point even had the option for a refund.

Also to take up your comparisions: Photoshop does not allow you to just upgrade everything. only the most recent versions, anyone with a version older is doomed. happened to me when I missed the CS2 upgrade with my ps6

I naturally understand what you mean.
But UT has made real generous offers as they could have just as well not offered anything at all and release 2.6 but they did the opposite, granting people that have not upgraded yet even an additional reduction that users that upgraded before didn’t get … so if we were after “fairness” then all that were stupid enough to upgrade before were punished

As you can see on the store, UT offers price reduction on any upgrade from existing licenses.
Unity indie just isn’t an existing one anymore, there is only Unity and Unity Pro

Well… lets just call it what it is… The Unity iPhone yearly support fee. The product isn’t even out 2 years and now it’s a sizable upgrade fee. Just seems a little soon to be coughing up another 1100$ on top of the $3500 paid not too long ago. I guess I just expected a little more use out of the product before I was paying again.

I was hoping that the upgrading schedules would at least be staggered. Throw android into the mix and it’s gonna be even more painful. Although I think this one may be the death-kneel for me. I’m not sure I can justify paying $1100 every year and a half.

Unity 2.x was released over 2.5 years ago and with 2.1, 2.5 and 2.6 it got free updates that companies like Autodesk or Maxon sell at 50% of the base fee upgrade wise

I partially agree on the Unity iPhone side although even that one is past 18 months now, so an upgrade fee will trigger in 2 years past its original release ± (remember it won’t happen till summer / autumn), which is more than adequate, especially as:

  • There is the ubermerge which is a massive thing.
  • There is umbra and beast, which otherwise would not have happened till 2011 on the iphone, so again a target platform with a significant, impacting and unneeded feature delta.
  • And there is the all new rendering for OpenGL ES 2.0

already these 3 points are massive and justify the upgrade for me.

The only thing where I really considering to stop upgrading is the asset server client license where I’m not satisfied with the non-progress especially since VCS was granted to pro licensees.

The version 3 upgrade looks nice. Don’t get me wrong.

Unity iPhone came out the very end of Oct. So if you want to get the discount, you still need to pay again within a year and a half. That’s assuming you purchased it on release day. And even on 3.0 release day, it’ll still be within the 2 years. It really probably wasn’t till about 6 months or so after iphone release, that it became stable enough to utilize the full potential. I considered that first 6-months as a beta period in which everyone prepaid. That’s just my feelings.

There is definitely a lot being added. And I don’t question the greatness of the product. I personally just haven’t had a lot of time to do game development in the past year. Just a lot of life changes, etc. So for me, I didn’t get as much development time out of it as I would have liked. With these short upgrade cycles, I got to ask myself whether or not I want to sit out and wait for 4.0.

Ok then… the preorder page says :

“Unity iPhone Advanced 1.x to Unity iPhone Pro 3.0 and $100 for Unity iPhone Basic 1.x to Unity iPhone.”

So…

How can I preorder the Unity iPhone 3.0 (normal, not pro) upgrading from iPhone Basic so it cost $100?

The upgrades are for Pro versions, and I tried buying the Iphone version (300$) and then specifying I was upgrading… so the cost says $100… but when you put your actual iPhone Basic serial, it says:

“This serial number entered is not for the required product. The required product was Unity v3.x, but the entered serial is for Unity v2.x”

But obviously every iPhone basic serial is from Unity 2.x (as it’s shared Unity 2.6+iPhone Basic 1.6)

Thanks in advance!!

at the time you cant through the store as the store is targeted at unity pro upgrades + offering the addons.

to only upgrade iphone you need to drop the sales team a mail.
