Unity iPhone crash, now Remote and Editor acting funky

Hello all

I have been putting the finishing touches on my iPhone game this weekend.

Unity iPhone crashed, not sure why, but it did.

After I restarted it, it opened my project fine, though to a scene i haven’t had open at all after multiple ‘project saves’

It also set the entire project to landscape mode. I set it to portrait in player settings and I even explicitly stated in code that every scene should be portrait.

Building to the iPhone works fine and the game plays in the correct orientation. However if I try to use the Remote, it still stretches the game into landscape orientation.

The editor also no longer displays portrait, even with player settings set to portrait.

Is there something possibly wrong with the remote app since it crashed? I am pretty sure remote was running when it crashed.

I have tried loading a new project
restarting Unity iPhone
restarting xCode
restarting my machine
removing my build and rebuilding from scratch

Nothing will get the editor and remote working in portrait again.

Anyone else run into this?

Thanks

L

Yes, I’ve seen this too. Well almost…but I have to think it’s related. I have a landscape project that’s been working and building fine to and from the editor and to my 3G phone. All of a sudden the game on the phone will only render in standard portrait orientation. @~~~~8-\ The gameplay and controls work as expected from a touch standpoint, just the orientation is off. Here’s something I’ve noticed in the properties as being set and passed from Unity to Xcode:

  1. Unity Default (Player) Orientation: Landscape Left
  2. info.plist key (Xcode) value: UIOrientationLandscapeRight (!)
  3. Editor/Remote gameplay Orientation: Landscape Left
  4. iPhone 3.1.2 render: Portrait

I’ve seen 2 other threads about wonky 3.1.2 behavior, and I’m hoping that the issue will resolve with a clean install of the various toolsets. I’ll also probably start keeping a closer eye on the order in which I apply updates and reinstall things.

Final note: in some non-Unity Xcode/Interface Builder projects of mine I have also noticed odd rendering changes from 3.0 to 3.1.2 (things like background images on buttons that were fine now rendering with ~10px shift). I’ll send another post if I happen across a concrete explanation or solution.

I have now removed Unity iPhone and re-installed fresh.

I am not a Mac user so from what I understood I just needed to delete the Unity iPhone folder and then re-install correct? If not please tell me how to completely remove Unity iPhone and re-install. It automatically opened my project even after re-installation so I am not sure I really removed it correctly.

I also completely removed Remote and re-built the project after re-installing Unity iPhone.

Neither worked.

I have also tried brand new projects and still cannot get the editor/Remote to show the game in portrait.

help!

hoping to get someone from Unity to take a look at this

Em, though I cannot imagine why this weird behavior did occur, I can give a piece of advice. You can try deleting settings file located at ~/Library/Preferences/com.unity3d.UnityEditoriPhone.plist

Does it help?

Thanks for the post! I will give this a shot this afternoon when I get home.

Will report back.

OK!

Well apparently the ‘aspect’ drop down got set to ‘none’ when Unity iPhone crashed.

I wasn’t aware of what that drop down contained and just clicked on it. I set it to tall and now everything works OK.

Hopefully this will be helpful to someone in the future in a search function.

Thanks all.
