I am a bit saddened by the fact that the Unity iPhone is deprived of the more mature Editor API that accompanies Unity Desktop.
This has been problematic in the sense that it is very difficult to create certain types of plugins without having to resort to a “less graceful” (read hackish) solution to implementing common features that make up plugin creation (EditorWindow and the font problem, ScriptableWizard not extending EditorWindow, etc…).
I know how dedicated and successful the Unity folks have been at delivering top notch software, and thus I have so far favored abandoning the unanswered issues rather than push them further, especially because I hate to knock at the Unity Team’s door to state the obvious; However, I believe the time is now ripe to be inquiring again about this, and hopefully, obtain some meaningful answers.
Can we expect the current issues that have been reported about the Unity iPhone Editor classes to be resolved soon?
When will we see an update to the Unity iPhone Editor tools?
I must say, however, these folks at Unity have done a fantastic job of working on this bicycle while still riding it. They got us Unity iPhone when the time was right, even though it was on the old platform, and every update brings the two together.
I’m glad I have it, working - rather than waiting until it’s perfect.
Actually that’s the plan. We know most drawbacks, issues, usability flaws and so on, but our primary and most important task is to let people do great games.
We appreciate that you folks understand and honor our current policy. So thank you!
