Hi All,
Just wanted to mention that there a few new examples on the resources page for iPhone developers. Most of them are extremely simple and just meant to get you started in the right direction. Enjoy and any comments on possible improvements or suggestions for future examples are welcomed…
Ethan
[Edit] Be aware that these projects should only be opened in Unity iPhone.
Thanks so much for these!! I’ve really enjoyed my first 2-3 weeks with Unity. Keep up the great work.
PS. Is there any chance we can get an ETA on the 1.1 unity iPhone update? Or is that a few weeks/months away?
Sorry but we’re not offering any ETAs on updates just yet.
Is there any chance of posting videos of the demos running on the iPhone for those of us who are still on the fence and haven’t purchased Unity iPhone yet?
Go here and you can view our little promo demo about the overall process.
Go here to see our 3D Platform Tutorial ported over to the iPhone by a community member.
Those are the two handy videos I know of…
Also, games made with Unity are in the app store. Crazy Snowboard ($.99) is one.
Speaking of apps in the store and demos, it would be nice to have a list of Unity apps that are on the store in the forum somewhere… I guess I’ll start a thread.
Thanks for these. TunnelRunner is so fun I am going to install it on my iphone. It’s like a variant of Cube Runner, which at one point was one of the top free apps. 8)
@mindlube: you just made Sam and Ethan two happy campers with that response.
Go Tunnel Runner
This is a project Sam and I did one day to flesh out the Unity iPhone docs… I don’t think it helped us too much in that regard, but it was a fun idea for an iPhone game and hopefully we’ll keep working on it in the future (along with all the other unfinished games we have sitting on the back burner)

New example on the resources page. It’s a simple memory matching game that will hopefully be of use to some people to learn from a bit.

[Edit] In case this wasn’t clear, this is a Unity iPhone example.
Hi,
it would be awesome to have also an great example for character handling and some animation stuff. Only a little short Game with a character that walks to see how to blend and what Poly´s a good for performance. ^^
Maybe a little Mario Clone ^^. I don´t know.
Thanks
Latzi.
Loving the example projects! It would also be great to see a simple example for saving/loading data (like high scores) and unlocking levels. I know every game is different, but the basic concepts would be universal to almost every Unity game.
Keep up the great work!
Thank you for this fantastic sample. I have one question, how did you create the cards in Cheetah?
They’re FBX files exported from Maya so if you have Cheetah installed on your computer they adopt the Cheetah icon.
Latzi,
check out the character animation demo project in the example projects area.
Judging from the Occlusion Culling demo and what I’ve been able to put together in a few minutes of actually dealing with Unity iPhone (after the ridiculous headache of dealing with Apple’s dev program and xcode) I’m sold on both the iPod/iPhone and Unity iPhone.
Looking at one example, I was able to get a nice albeit crude tilt control for my own needs pretty much instantly and I’m quite happy with the performance.
Hi,
i have just managed to install the examples and the Unity remote. However, the quality of the art seems very bad on the iPhone, almost quarter resolution. Is it normal? Or I just missed some of the settings… iPhone 2.2, Unity iPhone 1.01 basic…
Thanks!
Jules
This is because the iPhone remote simply displays an image rendered inside the Editor and streamed over the network to the display (highly compressed video). The game itself is not running on the device.
The Unity Remote app is meant as a simple way of testing and interacting with the game running inside the Unity editor. Your game will look MUCH better (it will look just like it does when running on the Mac) once built and actually installed on the iPhone.
I’m new to Unity and having some trouble just breaking through and understanding what a typical Unity workflow is like. I haven’t been able to find a single working tutorial that explains a basic walkthrough of what the process is like developing a simple game with Unity. Example files don’t really help because they just some me something that works without explanation. I downloaded the general 2d and 3d platform Unity tutorials but neither run properly on the Unity iPhone version that I bought (maybe I need advanced?).
Anyway, if someone could point me in the right direction or show me a simple step by step tutorial somewhere that works on the iPhone it’d be greatly appreciated!
