Unity Iphone Trial

Hi Folks,

As a newbie I hope this message is posted at the right place.
I am currently testing Unity 2.5 trial version (9 days left) and would like to give the Iphone version a try. I have sent a request for trial email on March 27 to the Unity Sales Team which did not answer yet.
I don’t want to come accross as being impatient but so far I’ve been impressed with what I’ve seen in Unity 2.5 and can’t wait to try the Iphone version.
I am sure Unity people are very busy so may someone tell me if I can expect it anytime soon ??

Thank you in advance for your answer.

napo98,
First, welcome to the community - it is great to have some new faces around.

As for the Unity iPhone Basic Trial, the team has been at GDC. I would imagine now that it is over they are very backed up, so I would give it just a couple of days. Something you should know, however, is that you have to become a paid Apple iPhone Developer to be able to test any of you games on the device, so the team will require this before handing over the trial key. More information on the iPhone developer program can be found here.

CheapDevotion,
Thank you for your prompt reply and welcoming.

I am actually a pre-registered Apple developper and I missed that “paid” requirement for Unity Iphone but it actually makes sens. I will wait for Unity sales people to get back to me before turning myself into a paid developer which I intend to do anyway. It’s just that I want to make sure I have the best tools available for Iphone game developement since I am a beginner with very little programming knowledge (except Access VBA).

Thanks again

napo98:

Check out the Unify Wiki for the info on getting signed up as a paid Dev.

It can take weeks if not months to get approved.

I had to call and get sorted out after waiting.

If you have any intent, and can spare the $99, then I’d jump on Apple™ now.

Little Angel,
Thanks you for this advice as I was not aware of that waiting time. I’m gonna jump in right now.

I’ve read the wiki and looked around. I am a paid apple iphone developer. I need to know what specific ‘proof’ of my devl status is needed to send to Unity to get the trial Iphone Unity version. -??

AFAIK - Unity will not need proof of your Dev status to get the iPhone trial, but if you don’t have the correct Dev status, some of the expected functionality will be unavailable.

e.g.: Using the iPhone as a remote in Unity will require that you build a project/app onto your phone that will send the accel data to Unity and with receive image data from Unity. If you don’t have apple’s proper provisioning licenses in place, then you won’t be able install this on the phone. To get the license you will need to be approved by apple.

If you are applying as a COMPANY you many need to send documentation to Apple proving your company is current and trading.

p.s.: The peeps from Unity are all trickling back from GDC, so you may have to wait a tad until they get to you. I’m sure they’re also slammed with request generated over the duration of the conference.
