In the store, it says that Unity is free. Is it just a free trial, or just a version that isn’t as advanced as Unity Pro?
Sorry if this is in the wrong topic, i’m new to the forums. I joined just to ask this, me and some friends are going to make a game, and we’re deciding on an engine.
There’s Unity3 (free), Unity3 Pro ($1500), and then licenses for non-desktop platforms. If you have a rough idea what your game needs, make use of the feature comparison on this page:
With Unity free, version-controlling non-script, non-art assets can be troublesome in a multi-person project.
Unitye free is not a trial product. You can develop entire indie games with it.
Okay, thanks. I downloaded Unity3 a while ago, but I thought it said it was only a 30-day trial, so I got rid of it because I wouldn’t be able to afford it after the trial ran out. I must have mis-read it, thanks.
When you download Unity3, the pro features are unlocked for 30-days for free, that’s what you threw away. If your indie game becomes a hit, maybe some day you’ll be able to afford pro.
