Hello everyone, I am sure I am not going to gross that much income, but just incase; the unity licensing agreement states that “if a legal entity grosses over $100,000 in their fiscal year under the free version of unity, then they must destroy all copies of the software.” Now, I would want to know that I failed to find in the agreement: Am I able to buy unity pro instead of terminating the software? Any answers help guys!
I’m not an expert and you should contact a lawyer or Unity support for clear answer, but that line from license:
During the term of this Agreement, you
expressly acknowledge and agree that
if you are a Unity Personal user and
the above thresholds are exceeded,
then you may no longer use Unity
Personal, and you must either purchase
Unity Pro or destroy all copies of
Unity Personal in your possession or
control and cease distribution of any
Licensee Content created with the
Software.
States clearly that if you exceed 100k$ you should either buy Unity Pro license or delete Unity Free(Personal) and stop selling/distributing any game that you’ve created with it.
Also note that you’re not allowed to combine things done in Free and Pro, that is done to force developer teams to buy license per developer.
I’m not an owner of Unity Pro but as far as I know Unity Pro is a separate installer so you’ll need to download it and install instead of Unity Free, it will also unlock few features for you so it is clearly advantageous.

After going through the two documents given above, it sounds like setting aside, from your game venture revenue, the amount for the purchase of Unity Pro should become another part of maturation within your “game plan” to become another expected investment in your game development process. As for the second question “other revenue”, that sounds like it would fall into the category of “crowdfunding”. As for the first question “you must either purchase Unity Pro” sounds like a heads-up call for any developer to get ready, when they begin to see a “good year”, (revenue wise), coming on because of a great game.
