Unity LOD vs Trigger


My game is for Android and i want to switch between 2 models only when the player is near. I know LOD can do this but i am interested to know is it better on performance just using a box collider trigger on my player instead?

I have alot of objects and i imagine that there will be alot of activating/deactivating as the player is moved. On average 4 object switches per second when the player is walking at the top speed.


The best way to answer your question is to try it yourself. Run the scene each way and watch the profiler. You can even set up a test scene with 1000 of the objects to make the difference more noticeable. Whichever takes less time, use for your game.
