Hey all,
Does anyone know what’s happened to the Unity magazine? I placed my order for it about three months ago, and haven’t seen a single issue… What’s worse, I will be moving home in a weeks time, and I’m not sure how to go about updating the guys handling the subscriptions so they can redirect it…
If anyone knows why I might not have received any copies of the magazine, I’d love to hear about it.
Thanks,
Lee
I think best is to PM Charles Hinshaw directly.
I haven’t had my magazine either.
I have emailed subscriptions@unitydevelopment.com but haven’t had a reply.
I paid about 3 months ago too.
Who is Charles Hinshaw by the way?
It’s coming up on a year since the last issue was published, and not much hope of ever seeing another issue. Charles (the magazine’s publisher) is now an employee of UT.
I’ve also paid and gotten only one magazine.
I was really wishing Charles well for the magazine and am terribly sorry to see it not happening.
Legally, subscribers are entitled to a refund on the balance of their undelivered subscriptions, and in fact, magazine publishers are required to maintain a cash reserve equal to the outstanding subscription money in order to issue refunds.
Will that happen? Or did we just donate to the cause?
I’m pissed, been 6 months and nothing. 3 months since they promised to mail me the first 2 issues at least. Is this magazine affiliated with Unity, because for me it’s a real black eye!
Perhaps its that actual physical publishing side of things thats getting in the way?
I’d buy it if it was in a digital format… much cheaper for them to produce and get out the door too.
Ugh, just went through and looked up my login etc again - it appears they are still taking subscriptions which is, in my opinion, basically fraudulent.
Unity 3D is great, lots of help and such on this website overall I have no complaints. But this magazine business is really getting under my skin.
Contact Charles for a refund. I did, and got my refund soon after.
The magazine is not a Unity Technologies project, but Charles’ own. He was later hired at Unity, but its still his personal project afaik

I just saw this thread –
Lazarus404 and I spoke through PM and I think that everything got sorted there.
stuntpea – I just did a search for the email that you have in your profile here. I’ll email that to get in touch, but that doesn’t turn up when I search my database or any inbox.
Horsman – I see your subscription and will email you shortly.
quentinp – We’ve talked via email. I’ve sent magazines to your address several times, and just emailed you today with an update.
Hey Charles, news about #3 then too?
Hi, i subscribed for the magazine as well recently and it’s by chance that i saw this thread. Is the magazine not being published anymore?
The magazine is still ongoing, and in fact after PM’ing Charles last night, I have subscribed for 6 issues (the current 3) and the next three.
Yes Charles emailed me and explained he was out of town, basically a postage mix up on the back issues. So I am hopeful again at this point. Hope I get them soon, my Unity development has been de-railed by a combination of Champions Online and Zbrush 3.5, so I need something to reel me back in
Any way to get the first 2 issues as well?
Well, I asked and Charles said he will adjust the subscription to start from issue 1
/fanboy squeeeee
[edit] small addendum here, does everyone get there subscription adjusted or how this going to work?
I didn’t do a default edit to accounts and ship 1 and 2 for everyone because I don’t know who already has a copy of 1 and 2 (through conferences, etc. I can see if they ordered it). In general, my policy has been that if someone says “I just saw that this subscription starts with X, I meant for it to start with X-n”, I’ll adjust their subscription and manually process the back issues. Email or PM me for that.
