Unity Maya flower Animation issue

I’ve animated the growth of a flower in Maya and baked the joints removing the constraisn and then exported as an FBX.
When the animation is viewed in unity it appears more angular, the flower is part of a gui element and it needs to remain smooth. I’ve ran some tests wiht unitys import setting and it appears to make no difference. If anybody could advise me as to what are the best setting to maintain the original animation that would be great. I have attached a creen shot of the flower in Maya and the flower in Unity.

Check your quality settings in Unity - make sure 4 bones per vertex is selected. Make sure that you don’t use more than 4 bones per vertex while skinning in Maya.
