Hi everyone,
I just decided to switch to Linux and installed ubuntu. I have in my computer Windows 10 and Ubuntu as dual boot. After a little searching, activated Vulkan in Unity editor. Wİth Vulkan, I get 160 fps while getting 35-40 fps on OpenGL. Even in Wİndows I can get only 130-140 fps. Is there any improvements to do in Linux for Unity out of activating Vulkan.
Not sure but I would be careful about such assessments. Did you make a release build of a realistically complex scene? If so, you can compare those builds because that’s what the end user experience will be like.
More often than not someone stops by and mentions performance of an empty scene, perhaps with one or more primitives in it. That is not relevant. Moreso if the measurements are done in the editor.
Side note: since you have a fresh install of Linux but likely a long-running Windows installation, the measurements may be skewed already because Linux still has practically no apps / background tasks installed or running and likely has the latest drivers. Whereas your Windows may be entertaining many background processes and runs on an outdated graphics driver.
Lastly, Linux may actually be hampered by lack of driver support (sometimes only community supplied) for a given hardware. Perhaps this explains the low OpenGL score.
Yes I mean besides activating Vulkan. I just reinstalled windows and updated drivers last week due to noticeable slowdown and excessive resource usage. After that, I decided to try Linux yesterday.
