Unity patch or final

Hi all

I want to know what is different between patch and final release ?
For example i have downloaded 5.5.2f1 and it’s has some bugs. I want to know that can i install patch 1 as standalone ? Or need to install on final version directory path without uninstalling final version?

The patches are standalone.
