I’ve been looking at getting a new screen as I have to use both my mac and pc these days. My otherwise glorious apple 27" display doesn’t work on PC and I’m tired working on a pc squeezed in on the side of the desk.
I thought a single 32" 4k screen could be decent setup…in case it behaves well. I don’t have the latest and greatest macbook pro…it is the “late 2013” with geforce 750m and is supposed to support 60hz in 4k, at least on paper.
Does anybody have any experience running this combo or using unity in 4k on a mac/windows in general?
4k works fine with unity, it’s just more pixels. Your gpu is the primary limitation. I have friends using 4k on the Mac and Windows with various hardware without issue. I’ve tested builds at work as well without issue.
Hey guys…thanks for the input. I was hoping that a large 32" would compensate on windows incase I would be faced with the tiny text issue, LaneFox seems to have had better experience. Maybe dependent on Windows version too…(I got Win 10)
Win 10 has dpi scaling options. Just my opinion but if you want to dodge the issue of dpi scaling from the start I have found 1440p on 27inch displays to be one of the best setups. You get a pretty large amount of extra screen space over 1080p but do not require dpi scaling.
You’ll be fine. 4k on a 32" isn’t that much smaller than 1440p on a 27".
I use 2560x1440 (1440p) on a 27" at work and 2560x1600 on a 30" at home and it’s zero problem when I’m sitting between 50-100cm from the screen or what’s considered normal viewing distance for a computer, it could easily be smaller. In my opinion dpi scaling isn’t something to worry about until you start using these resolutions on tiny laptop screens. You want 1:1 and maximum screen real estate on a desktop monitor in my opinion. At least until we start buying 8k displays or whatnot.
