My kids play an educational web-based game called Jumpstart and Mathblaster which uses Unity 3d Player. Yesterday evening we found that the game wouldn’t load.
It appeared to be loading but right at the last second failed and the message on-screen read ‘Failure launching Unity Player’. It gave two options:-
- Error details
- Launch manually
Pressing ‘Error details’ simply gave a window which read ‘Failed to copy Unity.dll’.
‘Launch manually’ opened up another window to download Unity Player again which I tried to do but some files were being picked up by my antivirus software as a threat and were removed by Norton. These files were:-
- webplay_win.dll
- mscorlib.dll
- system.core.dll
- system.dll
Norton identified them as being (WS.Reputation.1).
I then clicked on the ‘Having trouble launching this game’ link on the website and followed the instructions.
I cleared the internet browser then tried to clear the Unity Cache. The on-screen message said that this should take 1-2 minutes and I would be told when the process was complete. I allowed aprox 10 minutes but there was nothing on screen to indicate that the cache had been cleared, in fact the screen seemed to just ‘hang’.
I tried another browser (Firefox) and still could not get the game to launch. The same thing happened on Firefox as had happened on Microsoft Internet Explorer.
I have two PC’s at home, one a desktop running Windows 7, IE9 and Norton 360 v5; the other is a laptop running Vista, IE9 and Norton 360 v5.
Up until yesterday evening, everything was running smoothly the problems have only just started.
Sorry this is so longwinded but we have a paid subscription with this website so as you can imagine it’s really annoying when it doesn’t work…!
Any suggestions, please?
