I just noticed when I go to the Unity preference window, it takes up to 5 minutes for it to appear. And it does it consistently regardless if my project is completely empty, or if I reboot the system. I don’t recall loading editor preference being this slow before… does anyone have similar experience?
The preferences window opened almost instantly for me.
I tested on a Windows 7 64x machine.
What version of Unity are you using?
Thanks,
Chris
Unity 3.5.7 Pro + iOS Pro. On OSX 10.6.8.
Machine Spec : Macbook Pro Mid 2010 - Core 2 Duo 2.4 Ghz, 4GB Ram.
Always appears instantly here with those versions of Unity and OS X.

Hmmm, very odd. Are you by any chance using the free Sophos Anti-virus? Because I can’t think of any other reason why mine is loading soooooooooo slowly. I even turned off the Editor Analytics and it is still slow.
No, I don’t use malware…

Antivirus are a pretty annoying problem on OSX.
I’ve used sophos and a host of others and currently have ESET present and I can say from 2+ years of experience with them that the average file access performance drops by 90% and worse. Whenever I need my disk performance I disable them.
5 minutes sounds hefty for just this though, never seen it getting that worse.
But I definitely saw Unity iOS texture compression taking 20-50 times as long and the general performance dropping considerably too especially under sophos which acted against OSX desired behaviors it seemed.
Okay, I turned off Sophos and tried opening the preference window again… NO CHANGE.
It still takes 5 MINUTES to open up preference window. While its opening up the Spinning Beach Ball of Doom
just keep spinning for 5 minutes until Unity finally decides to bring up the window. I check the CPU usage in Activity Monitor and while the preference window is opening up - Unity’s CPU usage went through the roof ! Literally! It consistently clocks at over 106% of CPU usuage (how can it go over 100% !?!!).
