Unity Pro Trial: Cave Test

Messing around with shadows and reflections with some of my old assets.

I’m quite impressed. You should really turn this into a game of some sorts, some kind of spelunking-type game or exploration platformer.

May I ask how you created the cave structures: did you use Zbrush, Maya, 3ds max? Also, the water, is that the modified built-in water or a custom one of your own?

I’d love to see more of your work.

It’s the built-in night water modified a bit.

There is a total of 6 custom assets in the scene if you include the god rays. The structural assets were all done with Cinema 4D, ZBrush, and Maya (only for baking the normals).

Edit: Oh, and it was designed for my Mac Pro with a Radeon 4870, so if the framerate sucks for you, that’s why.

Really cool looking volumetric lighting solution. Love it.

Yes, nicely done. My only crit might be that the specular on some of the rocks is a bit too much. But I love the modeling, textures a lighting are excellent.

So many purists like to bitch about specular, but honestly I didn’t have a problem with the specular in your WATER-LOGGED cave. One would assume there would be wet rock, especially given the stalactites.

Anyway, pretty nice. The only issue I have (this is the internetz after all and everybody’s got to put their two cents in), the god rays are too “solid”. I’d lower the alpha on them to about 10-15%. I know, almost imperceptible, but that’s kind of the point. They’ll play better when you can’t see the hard edges of the polygons.

Otherwise, nice work. Give me some creepy noises, a flashlight and some vampire bats and you have the makings of a game.

Wow very nice! Great lighting and overall mood! Kind of reminds a bit of Uru: Ages Beyond Myst (a lot because your soothing music).

Do you repeat the texture maps or is every area unique using giant maps? Any baked lighting or ambient occlusion?

My only suggestion would be a darker background on the web page because its very bright compared to the dark cave walls. Unfortinately I couldn’t full screen it (it would just come back out after trying, some games do that for me :frowning: ).

It looks great. It’s driving me nuts trying to remember what the music is from. I know it’s just the end of a song I have in my collection and listen to often. Paul Van Dyk maybe?

Really really nice creating environment.
Like the other guy said.
Make it a little darker. put a flaslight in there, some mutaded or some Cage-people, and you got a nice thing.
and make the flaslight bash like doom xD allways fun bashing things to death

Is the site down? Cannot connect (even through proxy).

Works fine for me.

Working fine here. BTW I figured out the song. It’s Telepopmusik - Into Everything

Ohp, must have been my provider having a :: burp :: hiccup in teh intarwebs!

Cool scene, definitely want to see more!
