Ok, so first off after more than I year I’ve been mooching off of Unity’s kindness and have only been using the free version. Finally, as of late, late last night, I own Unity iPhone!
I mostly just want to make iPad apps (weird, I know), so the iPhone is not a concern for me. I got Unity Remote on my iPad, and currently there is only an iPhone version. I can zoom in with my iPad, but it becomes extremely pixilated, to the point where you can barely tell what’s happening. Is there a Unity Remote for iPad (or will there be)? Alternatively, is there some kind of fix?
If not, is there a Unity Remote for iPad coming out?
The unity3 iphone remote works for ipad
unity iphone 1.x only has an iphone 480x320 res remote, no ipad remote support.
Ok, so there’s no higher res version or anything, this is really hard to work with.
I trust it won’t look like this when the app is actually deployed, but how do you recommend I work around this? I’ll need to do a LOT of testing at every stage of my app and this is just ridiculous (though like anything Unity made, overall its an incredible product and I love it).
Upgrade to unity iphone 3 and work with that.
alternatively you might want to experimernt messing with the remote and see if you can trick it to work for ipad but I’m not sure if thats possible, never tried it and never saw it that much of a requirement as the direct use is restricted anyway as the feel is not remotely the same (the amount of data you need to push makes the input very lag on such a resolution) from the feel and the feel is the most important factor on an ipad game to me at least
The Unity Remote has really a bad pixelated approximation of what you would see. It’s definitely not what the end product will look like. It’s mostly useful to test controlling your app using touch and tilt.
thats what it is meant for, testing input and response feedback, not for playing (it just shows the image rendered by the editor).
IF you have purchased unity iPhone then you have a prepurchase for unity iPhone3, you will get an email probably in a few days letting your DL the betas. That has the iPad unity remote. I have been using it with the beta and it works great.

I got the email, and on the list there was a Unity Remote 2 (yay!) but no iPhone 3, which I’m hoping for as the scene navigation is really bad.
surely unity 3 was on there.
there is no seperation between unity and unity iphone anymore, all 1 editor with different project targets
There was a Unity 3 on there which I downloaded last night, and after the iPhone version didn’t improve I downloaded it again, still nothing. Here’s what it looks like when I open the Unity iPhone, and then Unity Basic (I pressed F9 so you can see both):
With the Basic I can navigate as normal, but I can’t with the iPhone.
with unity 3 there is no unity iphone anymore.
you go into build settings and switch platform to make a project an iphone one.
At the time its pc and standard from the titlebar.
and it did improve but if you were hoping for the black skin: thats a pro only feature
So then how am I running two different Unitys at the same time? And why is the update not working/being applied?
You are running two because unity iphone 1.7 is a distinct application.
its your unity 2.6 that was upgraded by the unity 3 install, not unity iphone as that didn’t need an update, it will not get a new version as distinct application anymore at all (so no overwrite ever)
as mentioned, there are no two applications anymore. Its now unity and the target platform you specify in the build settings defines if it is pc / mac or idevice etc (you still must buy the addon licenses naturally to select specific platforms as targets)
please read the docs, will clear it up
So is the version I got from my purchase download essentially useless? I switched the build setting on Unity Basic and got “iPhoneBundleIndntifier has not been set up correctly”. Is there any way to upgrade the version I just bought? I find it strange that what I got was an “old” version seeing as I just bought it…
Please reread what I posted above and reread what you also just posted (the error you get means that you are on an iphone project and need to setup the bundle identifier in the player settings, the same way as you needed before too!)
Ah, lol sorry! That was stupid of me
Thanks for all your help Dreamora!
sounds like it worked out now?
glad it did.
can be a bit of getting used too if you have your head in iphone 1.x, though it won’t take long and you can barely go back to it
One quick thing, I can’t get my iTouch to work with it using Unity Remote 1 (I haven’t registered it yet with apple so I can’t use 2 until it comes out). Is this just because I’m using Unity Remote 1?
Thanks again.
right, remote 1 is iphone 1.x only, remote 2 is iphone 3 only, the two won’t work on the other side
Ah that stinks, is there a release date in mind?
