Unity+Rift+Hydra brings Zombies to the Holodeck!

Some scary things being reanimated in the VR space!

I’m still waiting on something that’ll use a wearable system that will detect individual finger position and movement. I want a cyberpunk RPG of sorts that can go whole hog with things like holographic displays and keyboards a la Minority Report.

Aren’t we all!

But until then what about a working VR headset (developer version) and hand-tracking controllers to get the VR ball rolling, eh?

There’s this thing. I really should get around to doing something properly with the early developer Leap I got. But I’ll probably wait until the Rift arrives. I love the time I’m living in. Hmm… maybe I should pick up one of these as well.

Really! I’ve been trying to design one in my head, but I really just don’t have the big bucks for things like the Hydra’s sensors. The finger sensors actually aren’t that hard. Even the PowerGlove had them, way back when. (Though its plastic shell was a bit rough on the hands.)

People often say that it’ll be weird to not-hold an object while holding one virtually, but I really don’t think it’ll be that bad. Kids have held their hands like guns and faked pulling a trigger forever. It’s just the same, but wearing a glove.

Seems like everyone is jumping on the Oculus Rift bandwagon lately, this is just something I saw today :

Gross so how long before an a Rift version of the Saw films!

I don’t view it as a bandwagon so much as technology and science catching up with our dreams and aspirations.

In the 80’s VR was going to be the big thing even though you could only get close to VR graphics with raytracing compared to every high end game engine now and HD full colour LCD displays that you find in every mobile phone were nowhere to be seen back then.

Hopefully technology is catching up with our ideal version of VR and it’s the beginning of a new wave.
