Unity Skill Set

Have been playing with Unity for a while now.
Would like to ask the group about their core skill set. What skills do you feel are critical in getting a iOS game out.

Are most Unity users programmer or 3D artists or?

I am presently looking at learning either Blender or Cheetah 3d mainly so I don’t have to depend on 3D artists when I need to create something. Also so things have a consistent an cohesive look.

Thanks in Advance.

It really depends on wether or not you are going to be operating as a part of a team, or developing solo. - I assume that you are talking about developing on your own, in that case I would argue that the most important skill is a good understanding (or gut feeling) for aesthetics. And by aesthetics I mean it in the broadest sense possible - artwork, sound, style, gameplay-timings etc.

Furthermore you need to have sufficient skill in all these areas of development if you want to be able make a polished (and thereby have a chance at a succesful) end product.

This is of course just speculations on my part, since I haven’t yet released a product -much less a succesful one  - But hopefully someone can confirm, or rectify my assumptions

Thank you Steffan.
I am working solo. The aesthetics come easy to me(bear with my ego), as I have been doing digital design, 3D cinematic direction and VFX compositing for a long time. So that part is licked…

It’s more the general slogging of trying to grow my 3D chops, and then my Unity programming chops. Both of which come very slowly.
I have just bought Cheetah3d…and imported a sphere into Unity so I am on my way.) I also bought the Cheetah3d tutorial so hopefully, I can really start crashing forward.

Thanks for your response.

It’s good to have a little bit of everything (Unity is a game engine, of which both art and code play equally important parts). But since I"m more artistically oriented, I tried mostly to improve in code so I knew I could get one thing out there like models and such while I became better in code. I am a hobbyist by the way
