So yesterday I installed Windows 8 on my PC. Now when I re-installed 7 a few months back I had to obviously fill out the form so they’d release my license back to me. Last time it took a bit less than 20 hours to get it released. Today when I installed Unity on my fresh Windows 8 copy. It took less than 30 min. So I mostly just wanted to give a thumbs up to unity for the awesome support they’ve given over the course of my time with them.
I had a similar experience when I moved from an OSX virtual machine to a MacBook, really fast service from licensing support, huge thumbs up from me too.
Great to hear, last time I had to wait a full 24 hours though, but glad to hear this service has been improved.
Thank you so much for the feedback, we try to get back to people as quick as possible. We have also improved our licensing system so that odd 24 hour wait thing no longer applies ![]()
Sadly i’ve not had the same experience.
I got a new Mac after the old one died, but its taken a good 3 days of back and forth to get my license reset to just the one dev machine so I can license my new mac.
Though in fairness I will say that Unity did respond to the initial request very quickly, within a few hours of business opening times and the person I was dealing with has been very helpful. I think there was just some weird communication issue that meant even though I asked for only one machine to be left activate (and gave that machines name), another machine was left active, plus some other weirdness, one machine had two activations etc.
So I think maybe I was an edge case and that normally it is far quicker and of course with Unity 4 we know have the ability to return activations which is nice.
I imagine since you can de-activate your own licence that the queues aint so big for that sort of thing now.
Yes, they’ve always been very helpful and fast.
Still waiting on them adopting the modo license format, though… ![]()
Another kudos from me, nice new system!.
We also had a relatively painless experience a few weeks ago; the entire process only took about 3 hours.
I didn’t even realize that 4 could release a license. I’ve been waiting to finish my current project before I upgraded
a week or so ago, I did wait a couple of days for a license reset, but I was a complete arse and didn’t really supply any meaningful information as I’m in crunch at the moment, so props for unity for (obviously) having to investigate and do the hard work on my license ![]()
It’s because my macbook got killed over xmas and I’m having a mac mini delivered next week.
What happened to the macbook?!?!?!
MacBooks don’t like tea too much, I guess.
I too have had good experiences with license support from Unity, but for me it wasn’t migrating a license; it was actually purchasing a license. I bought an iOS license last January. I emailed sales and they let me use the discount from way back when Unity turned free (the one for the people who had previously bought Unity Indie). They were very fast responding. I was actually a bit slower to respond than they were.
I have had my licenses shifted around a couple of times through machines, even when I couldn’t remember my old machine names and such. Unity have been a dream transferring and solving the problems for me, Took around 24hours but I dont think thats bad at all, I think thats good.
Defiantly good service.
