Hii,

Hii,

When do we expect unity to flash build ??
They have just added a well known flash 3d veteran to the their team.
and when do we expect the flash build ?
3.6 or 4.0 is my guess
- probably not this year. Because they are not supporting flash as you know it, nor will they ever.
They are supporting the new flash (molehill 3D only thing) that is coming out in the future. It’s not even out yet so until it is out, don’t expect a unity export to it.
This stuff should be working with html5 as well, so it won’t actually be flash based any more (thank god, because frankly, its horrible on resources).
When its done I fear.
There were no news the past months nor timeline informations.
Molehill just recently reached beta, so I would not expect for a unity targeting for it to happen anytime soon as Unity is pretty surely not focusing heavily on it as long as its not live itself to prevent being shot.
Also with all the limitations they have to work through and the large part of stuff they need to cut (more than for mobile on iOS), its not a trivial task.
And don’t forget, it targets molehill, not general flash, with all the limitations this brings along, for example not supporting the old 2D API you used so far
yes i understand that , molehill is not out and it will be covered in flash 11 [i am not sure], just heard. Point is flash comes pre installed in many browsers and all noob users will update it easily and u take it as once flash 11 is out, in 4-5 months it will be everywhere and molehill will be on every pc…
hippocoder@ what do u mean by this ??
This stuff should be working with html5 as well,
dreamora@ correct me if i am wrong, the day molehill becomes public, lets assume in flash 11 version then, installing it will make 2d,3d all workable, it wont be like – install flash 11 for 2d and flash 11 for 3d…am i right ??
so i assume, the day molehill will go live, unity will sooner launch the flash build, not before that anyday to test things in incubator build…right ??
and please give a reply to this topic if possible -

a suggestion will be highly appreciated
Expect the first beta of the 3d flash export functionality in Unity to be introduced in late 2011 (as all news coverages say, e.g. gamasutra, develop-online etc)
We don’t know what UT actually plans, if they intend to offer a first beta possibility to target it during the molehill beta or if they intend to wait for the release version. What we know is that Molehill just recently left the incubator stage and entered beta and that there is no information on UTs plans and that the roadmap didn’t include a word either. Also on the last thread on the matter that was larger, UT could not even clarify if it would come for free or in Unity 3.x lifecycle.
We know that they started to evaluate the platform for targeting, but thats all we know (aside of knowing within some borders what you will lose like unity networking among other things)
And yes the flash version containing molehill would support both, distinct, APIs, the old 2D and the new 3D only molehill one. But it would still be an installation of a new flash version.
Flash is moving to html5.
no, flash remains, but along side there will be html5 (when it’s finished, which is hardly the case for more than a year from now).
Egde (html5 designer) from Adobe, is a side project (as Adobe has stated).
Hype on OSX (you can find it on the Mac AppStore) has been released months ago and likely does most what Edge does too if not more (have not looked at edge yet), and that now in usable form not just a lab side track “to prepare for the worst case” ![]()
