My question is will this functionality be included in the free version of unity as well? If anyone has any information on this subject, please post it here.
It will be nice though, if a part of that flash export functionality is included in the free version. I am not knowledgeable about such advanced technical matters so may be what I am asking for doesn’t make any practical sense
Indie game developers would greatly benefit from flash export for unity because then they would be able to factor in in-game advertising from mochiads etc into their game publishing plans.
I am guessing that since it’s a browser based system and it goes right alongside the native client and the standard webplayer, that it would also be free deployment like the standard webplayer. I suppose they could restrict it to pro only but then the audience of flash developers is pretty huge and they probably want to tap the people who can’t necessarily afford an extra license.
Well but they could also sell it at $600 USD per user and make it a real alternative to game devs using flash at the time which want to go with future oriented acceleration and performance, cause after all these devs all were willing to pay $700 for trash (in the context of game dev and reasonable hw support for anything 2004+) so why would they mind to pay $600 for a system that works and is fast and can be used to also release android and iOS versions that run at more than “stutters like hell”
After all we talk about Adobe customers here, not people that expect to get anything for free or even at reasonable prices (outside the USA)
It’s a separate publishing option like iOS and Android. My guess is that it will also be a paid license like those, possibly for the same price ($400 indie, $1500 pro).
Don’t knock us freeloaders(too much :P). I’m guessing freeloaders too contribute in their own little way. For instance, the unity community benefits from freeloaders. A good percentage of those who sell assets are probably freeloaders.
Btw, I do not plan to be a freeloader forever. I do think that at some point in the future when I determine I have gained enough from this software, I would pay up as well.
So remember today’s freeloaders could be tomorrow’s paying customers
I don’t care if ppl freeload or not, so long as they don’t get too annoying with the requests like “mummy is this freeeee” its a bit pathetic - and annoying.
It’s like they don’t appreciate what they’ve got to begin with.
Firstly, unless you own the unity company, I did not ask a damn thing from you.
All I asked was a simple question if there will be a free version of Unity to Flash. If there is, that would be fine with with me. If there isn’t that would be fine as well.
Whatever bigshot you think you are in real life, please go flaunt it somewhere else. I for one am not impressed.
The simple answer to that question was given at the start already: We don’t know
UT has not stated anything, the last statements were that its unclear if it will be free and that it will even happen with U3
i wouldnt expect it to be free, unity gives a lot away for free as is, and even if the basic version is $500, thats not bad at all, if your actually good enough to get clients its a good chance youll make it back plus more on the 1st gig
until you are able to purchase though just master the basic version and flash version will be ez cake and hopefully all youll have to do is change the platform
even though unity can already export for web, people are always scared to install unknown players
what will this mean for unity android though? understandably it wont be an app, but exporting for flash form unity should be able to played in the android web browser no? this could be a plus or a minus for android devs, more awesome web content may inflict sales in android market
