Unity update

New update in Unity is here but… Why i must download whole Unity again? 7 GB for nothing?

Uhm because it’s a new version of Unity? Unity never had any “patching” service as it’s a nightmare to manage them. Especially if people skip versions and you want to be able to “update” from any version state. The best and easiest way is to simply download the new version. Unity is a gameengine and not a consumer / end user product. If you have Visual Studio 2015 installed and want to “upgrade” to 2017 you also have to download the complete software.

It’s not 7GB for nothing but 7GB for the new version. If you don’t want the new version, do not download it. I haven’t updated my Unity for months. I still use 5.6.1f1. It’s even not recommended to upgrade when you’re in the middle of a project unless it’s really necessary. Things can get deprecated / changed in newer versions which can break your project. If you work on an important project you must create a backup before you download a new version.
