At one of our company’s meetings, it was mentioned that we should think of changing our animation software, switching from Blender to another one. Would Unity be a good fit for these kind of animations: Traumatic Brain Injury Portfolio | Fox Animated Engineering ?
its a bit like comparing a go-kart to an articulated lorry… in that yes you can get somewhere in both, but until is less designed for making the animations, more mixing pre existing ones together… You can can do animations in unity but its harder work.
This would be a bit like using a hammer to drive screws in.
Unity is first and foremost a game engine. You can animate with it and also create videos, but the point of using it is to create realtime/interactive content. In particular, Unity’s keyframe animation editor is extremely clunky, as in most cases you import animations instead of creating them in Unity.
Blender (or any other general 3D software) is far better suited for your use case than any game engine will ever be, imho. Also, you can benefit from offline rendering / simulation which will result in higher quality output. And since you don’t need to keep exporting models, textures, animations, sim caches, etc to other software, your workflow can be a lot more streamlined.
