Unity Web Player doesn’t start on Windows 10 x64 in Microsoft Edge browser.
It thinks that it is running in unsupported version of Google Chrome browser (please look at attached screenshot).
To reproduce it just run any application using Unity Web Player on Windows 10 using Microsoft Edge browser.
UnityObject will report “unsupported” plugin status.
Microsoft Edge Is not listed as a compatible browser for the Unity webplayer plugin.
And since unity is on its way to make Webgl replace the webplayer at some point i would guess that there will not be a webplayer plugin for Microsoft Edge.
We won’t be able to do anything about the plugin itself though since Edge doesn’t support plugins. You can keep running Firefox to play your Unity Plugin content on Windows 10.
It is working pretty well already Bringing Asm.js to Chakra and Microsoft Edge - Microsoft Edge Blog but we are not officially supporting it yet. Some issues with Audio remain to be fixed but it looks very promising and MS are eager to join the WebGL crowd and are putting a lot of effort into it.
The webplayer plugin deprecated by us several years ago and it will not come back.
The plugins new Edge supports are just coming by the way of them using Chromium under hood. They are also not the same kind of plugins the Webplayer was.
