i mean, looks nice, but is not the best demo i’ve seen from Unity, imo the lighting from that demo looks or feel a little bit flat, feels more like an amazing URP demo sometimes… i think even Adam has better lighting quality but i believe that is not a realtime demo. I’m not saying Time Ghost is a bad demo, i love it, but is not the best imho, there is also Book of the dead. Anyway, Unity has proved its capability many times
I would not take this as an example, it had a budget of a few millions for a couple of minutes. is nothing that makes sense for the real world, not even for a triple AAA company.
there was a thread back on the old forum when it was released, we discussed there, I don’t remember the details. but the conclusion some of us settled on was that the demo was expensive. Personally I’ve based part of my reasoning on looking at the credits, a couple of specialized studious were used, which are not cheap. Then adding the cost of the team, actress, logistics, things add up.
you can read some behind the scenes at the link bellow, the demo is intended to promote Hollywood like movie production using unity + those weta useless old software that are so good that they needed to go to outside studio solutions to make this work.
but the problem is that most of the people don’t read the details and jump to the conclusion that this is intended for real time gaming and most importantly that they can easily replicate this stuff inside their indie game.
i don’t think the budget for Ghost Time was similar to an indie budget, also, is a demo from Unity, the same guys that makes Enemies, so, budget is not an issue here, also, while enemies looks way better, i think Ghost Time is more complex, so yeah, enemies is a perfect example to explain my point
I’m pretty sure what “most of the people” think is pretty irrelevant once they start creating a project XD so it doesn’t matter…
I didn’t know that, thanks… Still the budget was not an issue
I want to get back to my opinion that this demo is not so relevant for gaming development which from what I’m reading is the subject of this thread.
I’m not saying is not a good demo for movie production but is less relevant for gaming. And most of us here we are small indie developers that needed best quality for like ideally nothing budget.
by most people i mean the overall mass of unity indie developers
Demos are and we’re always targeted where money is. Either large profitable studios, or film makers.
Unity demos didn’t really target small indies. And this is known for years.
Also, experience devs know, that such fiedility of visuals are not posiible for average Joe, withouth solid budget. So I dont see what is the fuss about. Maybe individual features can be used from, like timeliness, camera etc.
