unity3d and iMac 2009

I wanted to ask some mac people here, if the latest unity3D runs fine on an iMac 2009 model, or if there are any problems with it.
I wanted to buy a cheap used model to do some tests for ipad based games.
If this model won’t do, let me know if you have any suggestions.
Thanks.

It runs well on mine, at least. It should on yours too

i have a 2007 imac that i use for unity sometimes. other than the fact that the display is going and the mouse moves really weird for some reason it runs pretty good.

I have a late 2009/early 2010 iMac that I use Unity on and it works just fine. It’s not blazing fast, but I also don’t have a huge amount of memory in.

Apple depreciates their computers which means at some point you will stop receiving Xcode upgrades and iOS support. I’d look into the depreciation date of the computer your looking at buying, basically you want to make sure the next OS supports this Mac before you buy it. That is if you want to be testing on the latest iOS, you can still do builds on older macs but only for what ever iOS they supported prior to depreciation.

I haven’t found that happens too much. My computer still runs Mountain Lion and has the latest software. They stopped supporting the non-intel ones after Leopard, but I don’t see them depreciating computers as much as they do iPhones/iPods.

Indeed. I buy and sell computers here and there and ran into the earliest Macbook, went to the apple website and Mountain Lion(might have been lion) still had support for it. Honestly, 2009 imacs are just fine, I have one myself and it’s fully updated in terms of software. Awaiting on Mavericks to upgrade.

Here’s the (unofficial)list of supported macs for Maverick. So yeah it does look more than fine as far as lifespan - sorry if I caused any unnecessary worry.

You probably would want either 2011 or this years iMac editions.

A 2009 iMac would take 4 times longer than a 2012 iMac just to compile an iOS iPad game.

Have the 2008 24" iMac and it runs absolutely fine. Even better on the 2012 model :stuck_out_tongue:
