Unity3d can't go to 1080p full screen

I’m developing an application for internal company use that needs to run fullscreen at 1080p. I’ve been having a very hard time making that happen.

For testing, I set up a test application that attempts to switch to 1080p fullscreen but it does not work. There entirety of the code is the following:

if(Input.GetKeyDown(KeyCode.Space)) {
   if(Screen.fullScreen) {
      Screen.SetResolution(1280, 720, false);
   } else {
      Screen.SetResolution(1920, 1080, true);
   }
}

What happens is I end up at 1080i. I’m running at a desktop resolution of 1080p just fine so this seems very strange to me. This is on Mac OS X 10.7.2 with Unity3D 3.4.2f2

1080i (interlaced) isn’t possible. Maybe what you mean is tearing? If so, just enable VSync and the tearing will go away.

The monitor itself reports that it has been switched to 1080i

Curious, it seems that this only happens when I use an HDMI cable. I’ve switched to a DVI cable and it correctly changes to 1080p resolution. (Mac OS X also no longer gives 1080i as an option in it’s display settings).

With that said, this still seems like it’s an issue. Is there any way to force 1080p over 1080i when using a device that supports both?

Wow. Good to know. FYI, HDMI is a sham, just adds some form of DRM encoding into the video signal. Aside from that it’s no different from DVI or Component video in quality.

So… don’t use it either way, if you can help it! :slight_smile:

HDMI’s merit is neither here nor there. This won’t be an issue for the project I’m working on now but I don’t want to tell users that are using HDMI that they can’t make use of the full resolution of their displays.
