Unity3D Collision Issue

Greetings,

I do not know if I am posting on the correct place, so I am sorry if I am miss placing my threads.

I am looking for someone that would be so kind to help me out whit this little issue I have whit my project, hopefully through “Skype”, so I can both talk to you, and also show you my screen. “Team Viewer” would also work, if someone feel like using that!

The reason I cant just post the issue on Unity3D answers, is more or less becuase I do not know what it is and nor do I know how to describe it shortly.

My project is very little, and the issue is not that big, since I am just playing around whit how things work, so this is NOT something that will take long time. I would be more than happy to pay for anyone helping me out, but I cant, so I hope someone can do this little dead for me for free!

The issue is about object collision whit other objects, and I am sure its rather simple for those of you who have experiance whit it.

Just like I said, its not that simple to explain since I do not know what the issue is. I am trying to get collision to work, and sometime it actualy do work while it other time’s behaive very wierd…

I think that the easiest way to explain, and to understand for you guys is to see the project itself where you can see what I am trying to do.

I do not know if you have ever played “Coin Toss”? You lay down coins that will be pushed forward on the board, and your goal is to get the coin to push other coins out of the front of the board, and not let it fall down on the sides where you will lose it.

There is already an app for this, you can see it on this video;

My issue is that the push object do not always push the coins, and the coins never push each other which do not make any sense to me…

Do you have “Skype” or “Team Viewer”, so you might be able to look closer to it?

I could be underestimating, but it doesn’t seem like a complicated issue. I hope someone will be willing to Skype with you to help solve your problem.

But in case you feel like further discussing it here,

  • What type(s) of collider(s) are you using for the coins and the “push” object?
  • What method are you using to move the “push” object?

I am using Mesh Colliders on the coins, and also Ridgedbody!
The push object is moved by an animation, but I can easily make it move by script, but most of the problames are not in the push object, since that works most of the time, if the coin doesnt land on top of it. Its that the coin do not move each other that are the problame, since they stack in each other and dont move.

If you haven’t already, try marking the mesh colliders on the coins as convex. This allows them to collide with each other.

Thank you so much, I have no idea why I didnt test that out, even though I do not know what “Convex” means, or are… but I should have been smart enougth to atleast test it! You saved my day!

Now, might I ask you what you think I should do for the push object? The animation seems to work fine, but sometimes it just go through the coin, or the coin just go through the push object. Should I just do it whit script, the movment? Or, do you have any other idea?

For the “push” object, I would try giving it a kinematic rigidbody and enable “Animate Physics” to see if it resolves the collision issue.
