Unity3d License loader Failed to parse machine binding

I am trying to get unity running on linux using wine and so far it looks like everything works (unity 3 worked at least) but when I start up unity 4 it says error initializing license system. And the log reads

LICENSE SYSTEM [20121122 10:4:29] Failed to parse machine binding 1

If you know how to fix this for wine let me know. If not, tell me how someone would fix this for windows and I will see if I can use that information to fix it for wine.

Thanks in advance,
Dartos

Best thing to do would be to e-mail support@unity3d.com they can most likely help you out.

I did. But while I am waiting for a reply it can’t hurt to ask the community.

I’m experiencing the same issue on Ubuntu 12.04 with the latest WINE from the upstream PPA. I’d be interested i hearing if you get any response or any progress you make.

Wine does not fully support Unity 4.0. You can install but not activate Unity on Linux through Wine.

Indeed this is the problem we’ve been experiencing. If we could figure out what Unity is trying to do during that activation step, perhaps we could pass feedback to the WINE developers in order to fix the problem.

I’m experiencing the same issue with Ubuntu 12.04, does anyone know any workaround to be able to log in using Wine?

I know this post is a little bit old and I don’t know if you got it working dartosgamer. However I made a video showing you what you need to do to get it working.

Raven67854 this video work for me!. (Arch Linux - Kernel 3.12.6-1 - Wine 1.7.10-1 - Winetricks 20130707-1)

Thanks!

Raven67854, it worked for me as well … I was getting “error initializing license system”, but after adding the “ProductID” key (even without value) in the RegistryEditor, it passed through that problem
