Just wanted to let people know that I’ve started my new more advanced tutorial series after reaching 100 videos. There are now 8 new videos covering an advanced inventory. Future tutorials will cover a questing system and other rpg elements such as boss / enemy AI. Thanks everyone for the support and helping me improve my tutorials with feedback. I now use the proper coding format and I couldn’t be more happy while coding now! Bashing my previous coding really helped me improve my skillset and am learning to do things the right way. Please enjoy the new videos and more feedback is always welcome!
You don’t have to have the wired controller. I’m using the wireless Xbox 360 controller with Unity.
It’s true that the wireless’s cord is “just” a charging cord and does not transmit any data through the cord. However, it does transmit the data wirelessly when hooked up correctly (otherwise it wouldn’t work). I’m not sure how Unity picks it up, but I think it sees it as a Windows joystick and not a USB device. In other words, I think Unity is oblivious to the fact that it is USB at all and simply asks Windows about any joysticks connected to Windows.
Regardless, the wireless Xbox 360 controller works just fine.
Where you may be confused is that you have to setup the Xbox wireless controller with a wireless receiver. If the wireless receiver is not hooked up correctly, it won’t matter that the controller is wired into the computer with a USB cable. Again, that cable is charge only and never data (I found this out the hard way while on a support call with Microsoft).
You used to be able to go buy an Xbox 360 wireless receiver by itself and steal the controllers from your Xbox and put them on your PC. Now, I think they only sell the receiver (a USB device) with the wireless controller for PC package. But I guess that just means you won’t have to go back and forth resync’ing your controller to your Xbox since you’ll have a dedicated controller for the PC.
Also, the AA rechargeable battery pack is interchangeable with the standard AA battery pack.
