Hi community,
I’m a student and I like programming :3. Game development is very interesting; I know everything about the “setup” of a game project. A language, a game engine, a physic engine, modeling, animating, audio, compiling and testing.
Unreal Engine “seems” the best engine in the world, but it’s not as good as you see it. The only versions of the engine avalaible to the public are UDK (buggy and a mess) and UE4 (not a real engine, but an experiment, with a sucking documentation). It sounds strange, but I’ve read many posts in which people said that Unreal Engine 4 (C++) is slower than Unity (C#). My studio will use Blender, GIMP, Audacity for multimedias and I’m looking for a game engine.
Unity 4 is too expensive (71€/month) and I can’t afford it. I’ve watched the Unity 5’s trailer on Youtube and it show a lot of features I’m interested in. What will the price of Unity 5 be?
Will Unity Technology© set up royalty for indies and people who has not a budget?
You can use a free version of Unity for free
And the actual engine costs aren’t high.
Free Unity shows a “Powered by Unity” Splashscreen.
Is that the main showstopper for you?
If you look at AAA games, they all display the technologies they use. This shouldn’t keep you from making games.
Really?
Does it seems unprofessional?
Obviously not if AAA games do it as well lol.
Whenever I boot up Shadow Or Mordor, a huge splashscreen pops up with about 20 different technologies logos that are powering the game, for a couple of seconds. Does that detract from my experience of me hunting Orc Captains for the next 4 hours? Nope!
We’re no longer sell Unity 4 licenses, we only sell Unity 5 licenses, they are backwards compatible so you can use every previous version of Unity with that license.
So, as it stands the price of Pro is the same and we are not planning on royalty schemes for indies. But as everyone has said, there is Unity Free.
/on_point
Everyone from the publisher, audio system, rendering toolkit, media distributor to the developer has their logo pasted on stuff. Not an issue for me. /ignore
Startup for some movies subjects me to a non-skippable warning that I’d better not pirate the movie I’m about to watch. I just get the popcorn going in the microwave during that.
Happy Holidays
No, not at all. Slap “proudly powered by Unity” on it, too.
I actually plan to show that manually in my games published with the pro version. I’m proud to bear the mark of the engine in my projects
Is there an option to enable the splash screen in the pro version? I’m a proud consumer of this product.
I’m not sure you can get the free one in Pro, will need to dig around for that. But you can certainly follow our brand guidelines and make one.

I am completely fine with the Powered by Unity3D logo I would like them to update it though to look even better. I am proud to show off Unity3D in my games.
Yeah, even some sort of swish animated affair might be sauce.
Maybe Unity could have a contest to create a new splash screen. Give away a copy that doesn’t use it.
As the Unity brand style has changed recently (Info here: http://unity3d.com/public-relations/brand) the splashscreen will change to reflect the new cleaner style. Still being worked on ATM.
But who gives a rats ass.
Really if this is your only reason /rofl
Hmm… I guess I’ll just use a little png of the unity logo and make it fly around for a moment.
