Unreal Engine 4 to be unveiled in 2012

I know that this has nothing to do with Unity 3D Gossip but i did not know where to put it…

The Unreal Engine 4 is going to be unveiled soon.

What are your thoughts?

As a developer, I am uninterested. I don’t care for their business model. I rather pay up front and not owe anyone royalties.

As a gamer, cool. Can’t wait for the tech demo they will name “Gears of War 4”

Their business model is fine. The Unity business model is fine.

Was someone claiming otherwise as fact?

Cant wait to see it, i can image super heavy poluted editor with engine that works on 24+ cores only.

The post right above me was commenting that he doesn’t like the royalty model. Am I allowed to say that its OK to charge royalties or flat rates?

It’s actually fine to disagree with opinions, but you clearly have a problem with that.

Lol XD

The thing is I never even stated any opinion. I stated a personal preference for this particular situation. I don’t think there is anything wrong with royalty based business model. I simply stated I don’t care for it and that I rather pay my dues up front.

Your post implies that I attacked their business model, something I did not do.

I ponder why every time Unreal engine comes up, even the most passive of comments that is not entirely lovely dovely must be treated as an attack against the product.

Edit to add:
To clarify actual opinions, I think the royalty system is good as it allow large teams (or individuals with no budget) an extremely low barrier of entry in exchange of a slice of potential future income without sacrificing features as they would with the free edition of Unity.

It does add an additional accounting complexity moving forward I really dont want to ever have to deal with, though.

Hopefully this last edit may make my comment PC for Unreal fans.

He stated his personal preference and was clearly subjective about it. It seemed more like you were just saying his opinion was wrong, and framed your own opinion as fact.

A preference is not significantly different from an opinion. Either way, you two are reading far too much into things. Clearly both models are in fact fine as both Unity and Unreal are doing well as companies.

A - Semantics arguments never get anywhere.
B - Mirror, mirror in the wall.
C - Was never in question.

I think by “next gen” they mean running on computers that have similar specs, as none of the other places have even confirmed a next console and by the looks of things the Wii U is going to be around the same level as them on specs as them as i doubt that any of them are stupid enough to do another PS3 as it cost $1000.

To be fair they surely all are going to be around the specs of a Nvidia GTX 560(not the Wii U) and i doubt that they could loose the opertunity of the Wii U as its bound to be imensly popular… dam that tablet thing is like a vision into the game  also people say its going to be unconfy but if its the same shape as the slide pad pro then its confy as.

there are rumors that the next-gen Xbox will have an almost identical controller
well I’ve never seen that happen before

hardly considering that there have only been 2 versions of the xbox so it has only been done once before… even then it happend to be verry difernt to the first controller.

I wouldn’t be surprised is the engine was showcased alongside the new Xbox at E3 this year. Its definitely going to be interesting to see which new graphical features are going to dominate the main-stream for the next couple of years - Lets just cross fingers that it won’t be grimy/muddy image-effects, or bloom explosions.

i bet that the next xbox shall not be anounced at e3 the xbox connect is to recent people dont think they need anthing yet… and realy they dont.

I have absolutely no faith in my abilities for predicting the entertainment industry anymore (it was crushed by Diablo III’s ever changing release frame) - but here goes anyways. I would argue that a lot of people soon -if not now, will be ready for a new generation. The consoles have fallen behind the PCs performance by a very drastic margin, and I think that people are beginning to realize this. + The new Xbox wouldn’t be released this year, only announced - followed by a release next year.

I guess time will tell.

Ps. I sent you a PM

Nvidia?

Someone needs to learn a wee bit about console graphics.

Sorry i dident mean built around a Nvidia GTX 560, i ment have around as much strength as a GTX 560. I edited my post to stop future confusion

Either way one should have used an ATI analogy - as they are the most liekly candidate for any console GPU. [The only console not using ATI is PS3, and we all know how well that products working out + nvidia have a poor track record of late].

I read some rumours of the 6670… but given the release date is 2012 I’d hope they’d pick something newer.

To take this OT just a tad further - given the success of APU’s and SoC - the ‘let’s build a console using last years parts and sell it for 7 years’ strategy simply isn’t going to work. When your mumma’s $400 netbook is faster than your console people are going to start losing interest.
