So if a 16 Year Old Nelson Sexton can do it with Unity YES you can too with Unity…

My advice Unity should splatter this kid’s game and face all over Unity Showcase and make him a poster boy for what can be done by anyone using Unity with little to no money, but with a dream and a little talent, time, effort, perseverance and determination…

Oh and don’t forget to offer him a job before someone else snatches him up!

So take that Unreal and Crytek!

Not sure about Unreal but yay for Crytek.
Anyone else thinking CryEngine is really bad?

Let’s focus on the topic instead, not the jab at the end… Its about Nelson 16 year old who created one of the hottest titles on steam right now using little more than Unity and blender and how if a 16 year old can with Unity certainly the rest of us can too…

It is an impressive achievement, and the game does have a certain charm.

Yay for Nelson! It is always wonderful to see young people succeed! I like that he is focusing on the community and allowing them to help guide the development of the game.

dang… and ive been wasting my time trying to make … about call of duty 2 level of graphics (well maybe just a little better)

should just do graphics like that!

LOL i was totally going to make a game sorta like this, but i was like, meh… i gotta make ALL those items and stuff, (with ~cod2, cod4 graphics) and i sorta lost interest…
not to mention, theres sooo many zombie games, i was sorta like meh…

working on a 3rd person action RPG right now… gonna go for handdrawn textures, on, eh, maybe about PS2 level of 3d models. kinda cartoony low poly characters

personally, i think, as long as you can tell what stuff is, its good enough graphics,
but i know alot of people hate bad graphics…

but the thing is, really, i HATE photorealistic graphics, those games dont really Feel like games,
and like, i end up expecting that, if it looks like real, it should act like real, and alot of photoreal games, the actual way guns work and etc is not real at all, so it feels lame to me

so, okay, now i know graphics dont mean a thing. good to know!

i believe the best graphics EVER is like, Divine Divinity graphics, or Secret of Mana for SNES, handdrawn art,
battlefield 4 looks like crap in comparison.

theres some point where realistic just feels crappier…
you cant use your imagination anymore… … or something,
it loses the sense of wonder and enchantment…

that said, i guess minecraft and this, absolutely maximizes wonder and enchantment value…
hmm

(lol kids so lucky nowadays, get to do Unity and sell it as a hobby… at that age i was modding Morrowind and making maps for CoD2, and WolfET… no chance for profit, But, hell of a lot of useful experience  ,
i dabbled with Gamemaker back then, i made some game, but i didnt even know it was possible to sell games, didnt even think about it, i just trashed that game when i got bored of it, didnt even post online anywhere, it was pretty good, better than some mobile games that are making alot of money)

LOL ! @Murgilod yes… there are sooooooooo many

But I’m really happy for the kid, it’s really impressive.

They won’t feature it, because its not pretty enough. Great job anyways!!!

That is pretty cool that a 16 year old can have the level of success

Wow.

It’s great seeing that these things happen. What an achievement! Nicely done Nelson.

Really really cool, and not just because he is 16 years old

Impressive work and dedication.

aren’t they all

What’s even more puzzling about the Unity showcase is that it features games that haven’t even been released or demoed. In the showcase I sense a strong bias towards games requiring a massive art budget.

Of course the showcase is to show Unity in the best light possible…

Of course that’s the point of the showcase. We do showcase games with varying development team size and budgets. This might not be the prettiest game, but it’s still in development, made by a 16 year old and it in the top 5 most played on Steam. A success most developers can only dream of, colour me impressed.

This is just excellent work. I cant wait to see where his project goes.
