Updating Unity

Hi everyone !

Every time I see an Unity update I have to redownload it entirely, remove old one, etc…

Is there a way to just update it ?

Thanks.

Really - So many information
BUT
Base information (which MUST BE already in GUI of Unity (as example - near check Update)) is not described
and NO information in internet.

I mean the same as was asked SnakeTheRipper - How to update (full) Unity ( as example by Start Your Creative Projects and Download the Unity Hub | Unity ) ?

Download and install over the old one (or a new folder). There is no other method.

Thank you for information.

But it seems install over old installation is source of BUGs (etc.), because i think what Unity will not deleted old files which is not completelly using in new version and also all necessary old settings can be overwritten by defaulr.
…Even if this will be allowed by Unity installer (at least creating new project in folder of old project is not allowed).

And when updating assets - Unity is recommended to delete all old because Unity is not deleting files which is already not using in new version of a asset.

And where is configuration files (as example of Monodevelop editor) for save settings made by user and not waste time for settings after every “updating” ?

…Strange what that great engine (with many work of its team)
is not supporting SIMPLE UPDATE which can be developed during some hours (or 1-2 days) by 1 developer.
As example:
Variant 1 - Based on Turtoise SWN insted of download and install.
Variant 2 - Based on simple “update configuration” file in which will be described all necessary actions (which files must be deleted and which copied-moved) and this file can be autogenerated by Turtoise SVN or by another.
Variant 3 - Based on installer which will be worled also as “compare files” or/and “control version” software. But this variant is not so effective in comparison with variants 1 nad 2 at least till this algorithm will be improved.
Variant 4 - …

I can offer many if developers need it.
Just ask me…

Any “news” ?

BTW, question…
I already wrote about update installer page

But still there is not information - Is it safe to update any of Unity 5 versions using this update installer ?
I.e. it is enough only download and run this “Update Installer” and it will CORRECT update Unity to newest version or … ?
I’m asking this because already meet with strange “updating” problems, which also have described above on this page.

If you have
problems with updates, file a bug report. Unity is using the “update over old version” method since I am using it, so at least 3.4 and I never had any problems with it. If you are unsure, just use a new folder to install it, they can both exist.
I have currently 4.6, 5.2.b1 and 5.2.b4 installed.
