Upgraded to unity 4.2. Now all existing particle effects are ignoring 'Color Over Time'

I recently upgraded to unity 4.2. All my existing particle effects are ignoring “color over time”, and often ignoring _tintColor by favoring the color set in the material over the one the ParticleSystem sets. Anyone else experience this? It basically broke every particle effect I had.
