Upgrading from 3.5.6 to Unity 3.5.7 stops SSAO from working on 2 sided objects.

Hi

Since upgrading to 3.5.7 all my 2 sided objects go black (basically they’re “paper” objects that have polygons on both sides but are super thin)

I’ve tried moving them apart and changing the SSAO settings, I can get rid of it but I also lose the desired look and any evidence of SSAO for the rest of the level.

Is there anything I can do about this? a work around?

Thanks

Kinl

Edit: It also does it if its a solid thin object… I’ve guessing this isn’t desirable since swords and the like will also suffer from SSAO blackening them.

Does anyone know if its a change in the SSAO effect and if so where can I get the old one from?

Unity Support?

Does anyone from Unity look at these forums any more? Is there another more reliable way I should get support these days?

Very few people use Unity 3 anymore I’m afraid, so it will be tough getting answers about that.

I hear you, my assets are slowly no longer working as the devs export with 4… its not because they don’t work in 3.5 or that they use any of the features of 4 or even that they’ve been updated in any other way that simply being exported with 4. Aubergines image effects for example (which I highly recommend by the way!), I have his latest version working no problem in one 3.5 project, then all of a sudden the same version stopped being able to be imported via Asset store only because Aubergine had upgraded and exported with 4x, which I understand Asset store devs need to keep up with the latest versions.

Unity 4 never added anything I actually needed, and if its not broken why fix it? especially for 750 bucks. I do however feel a little sad that support for 3.5 is dieing so quickly and that the ONLY reason I need to upgrade to 4 is because I’m slowly loosing my investments in the Asset store. Its almost taking me back to my Director/Shockwave 3D days… Almost

I also seem to remember some of the fixes and features mentioned were supposed to be in 3x but then were only implemented in 4? I could be wrong on that though.

I do wonder how many others have been forced to upgrade rather than upgrading for the features.

Thanks for your reply.

Sincerely,

A slightly jaded user in from the very start, heck its the only reason I have a Mac in the corner of my room which is now relegated to making my office look cooler to the cool kids

Fingers crossed our next release will be a success so I can buy Ferraris and perhaps Unity 4

Unity 4 is around for almost a year now, so its very natural.
But as i explained, you can still install unity 4 in a different folder and download your updated packs and copy the scripts/shaders back to 3.x if there are any textures/models or other stuff, that can be tricky to adjust all settings. But in most packs(im talking bout mine) the textures included are meant to be for demonstration only and you should prepare your own textures anyhow.

It could be worse, people could release 2 different versions for Unity 3 and 4 and charge you extra :stuck_out_tongue:

Ah I see now, install the free one?

My lack of posts since I joined in 2008 should be the give away I’m the art side of things and generally don’t have a huge amount to add here, I guess I’m all questions and no answers ;)… anyway this means If I can use my own assets I usually do.

I would like to get 4, Mechanim whilst not necessary to me right now does look very very cool!

My fear is I upgrade to 4.2.5 a year late then 5 comes out in another year… do any of you know if thats in development?

EDIT: although I guess the pricing structure should reflect that since Unity 2x you no longer get an upgrade deal, maybe 3x will also no longer be upgradable when 5 comes out? eeek.

Not sure what you mean…the upgrade price from the previous version is 50% of the new purchase price, which is the way it’s always been.

It was another thread where someone mentioned that Unity 2.x to 4 was 1500… but its not true, its actually 1150, version 1 to 4 is 1250, I did mention for me going from 3 its 750.

I should know not to trust everything I read
