US Army and Air Force Use Unity

Interesting little short article on one of Unity’s new supporters; the US Government.

Unity is certainly getting bigger and bigger every day!

I love the smell of bootcamp in the morning-

Not exactly the same

I had various gov contractors buy stuff from me last year. I thought it was cool being connected to ‘gov contractors’ until I received a Skype request and found out I was busy speaking to the US military on the other end! Now THAT was the highlight of my games career to this point!

I was helping this guy get to grips with a couple stuff. Real decent guy. There was speak of longer term contracts, but nothing came of it, unfortunately… But it was still a highlight for me! I started out thinking i would be hanging out with ‘gamers’ and ‘game developers’. Since starting hanging out here, though, I have realized there are all sorts of people hanging out in these here hills. Finding the military hiding in the bushes should come as no surprise…

Unfortunately, now, each time I am contacted by the military from another country I tend to feel a bit … odd … like I am a double agent for various countries that I am not a citizen of one of… :stuck_out_tongue:

hehe, based on your packages I would guess you’re not sharing national intelligence, you are just helping them make blowing sh*t up, look cooler

The California State University system is using it as well to make an interactive map of one of their campuses. I know since I am the one doing it.

A PROfessional writer writes these things, with full knowledge of the intention and desire of the company. Because it’s a Unity Technologies CopyWriter that wrote this. They’re not randomly generated reality snippets, or events reported on by an impartial reporter/journalist/blogger of or for Gamasutra. This is a very carefully structured PRESS RELEASE used as marketing, and presented as News. It’s NewsSpeak. (look up 1984 if you don’t know what “newspeak” is)

So what if it is? nobody is saying its not  doesn’t make the fact less impressive.

What fact is impressive? That they write newspeak?

$340
No confirmed speakers. No ideas on prizes for the contest. No food. No Hotel.

If I was Unity, scalping $340 per head for this uncertainty, I’d be stoked too. Way to milk the cow.

I really like this and hope it spreads to other countries. I’ve been working with military games/sims for quite a few years, and the amount of custom and weird software that’s used for simulation and gaming is mind boggling. I guess it’s not that different from the other government / public sectors, but it surely would ease joint ventures between countries and defense contractors if Unity became the de facto platform.
