Usability feedback

Hi! I’m setting up a new project, and want to install several packages.

I was very confused why i cant press Install on this package, it was available after restarting the editor again. As it turns out, another package was installing, and i scrolled past. It was not obvious for me it was still installing as its doing things in the background, and scrolled past. It would be quite nice if it somehow communicated that i cant install while an operation is pending.

Speaking of which, it would be very, very very convenient if that was somehow possible. Either multi-select, or queue up operations. At the moment when i want to remove a bunch of packages (which i do every time i make a new project), or add some, i have to do it one by one. Installing takes time, selecing multiple packages to install would be very convenient!

Thanks in advance.

Yes all good points!
I would also love to be able to make a set that I can just install all at once when making a new project.

I often do this, just type the name of a package. Then realise i’m not in the right mode, so i switch to the right category. Sadly the search field empties in that case, and i have to write the name again. Minor annoyance, and maybe the error is that i dont know what i’m doing, but it would be nice if the search term stayed.

Hi @TJHeuvel-net ,

Re: A message like “Cannot install package while other packages are installing” - I have passed this suggestion along to the team.

Re: Installing multiple packages in a single operation - I can confirm this is in the works and will be available in an upcoming release.

Re: Filter text disappearing when switching tabs - this is a known issue and has been brought to the attention of our user experience designer. I agree it seems intuitive that the filter text would remain, however I know there were concerns that other users may find this confusing - for example, if I entered “asdbjk” which doesn’t match any packages, then I switch tabs, I still will see an empty list and wonder why I’m not seeing anything. Hopefully our UX designer can come up with an intuitive solution that covers all use cases

as long as “asdbjk” is shown in the search field the user can assume that its the reason for the zero results

@Lars-Steenhoff I’m no UX designer but that may not be safe to assume! However, it could definitely be made much much clearer by having a message or visual in the details pane along the lines of “No packages found matching ‘asdbjk’”

“No packages found matching 'asdbjk”

Yes thats great feedback for the user.
I would send that to the team.

I prefer to just state my problem, and let a UX designer solve them. Especially when i’m merely a customer, i have no idea what Unity is planning etc etc.

Personally i think the underlying issue is those categories, they dont really add much value for me at all.

I dont know the difference between Unity Registry, My Registries, In Project or Built-In. ‘My Assets’ is assetstore i think, the others i am clueless about. I have no clue where the package that i am looking for is, so i just click categories at random.
