Use .anim file on Unity

I have .anim files for use as animations, but I don’t have any character attached to it.
When I import .anim files Unity don’t recognize the files. And don’t appear on the animation tree of Unity, how can I import this animations .anim without a character attached?

You need to add a character. The .anim files are already “imported.”

If you’re using Mecanim, you can drag the .anim into the Animator Controller window to add it as a state.

If you’re using Legacy, the bones in the .anim need to match your character’s skeleton. Then you can just add them to the Animation component.
