using an Iphone, or Ipad as a remote control ?

Hello,

I have Unity pro and unity IOS license.

I wonder if it could be possible, to use an Iphone, or an Ipad, as a remoted mouse, or a 3D mouse to fly in my 3D simulation like when I use Unity Remote to walk around the demo scene of “star Trooper”, but for a “normal” project, not an IOS project…

I use Unity in a show, and i would like to get down the scene to go with the public, and use my Ipod as a mouse…
Is there some script, or soft I could use to do that ?

Thanks

Yann

If you develop an own iOS application that handles the communication and implement the counterpart on the pc / mac, sure why not.

But no there is nothing premade for this at least I have not seen anything

I just yesterday watched a presentation on YouTube that did exactly what you’re asking. The presentation itself is about 2D solutions in 3D, but at the end of the presentation they use tools called Brass Monkey that allow you to use phones or pads connected over the network to control the main game. They allow people in the audience to play their “Smuggler Truck” game running on a computer while using the phone, including using the tilt of the phone to control the tilt of the truck.

YouTube - 2D 3D Unity Presentation Part 3

That is part three of three, which is where they show off the game and the controller. The first two parts are:
Part 1
Part 2

I have no personal experience with the software, but it seems to do what you’re talking about based on their demonstration.

Thanks for your answers

Hi Yannminh,

We are about to submit a tool to the asset store to do just that…
Check out http://www.underdog.be/undercontrol/
Here you can test our app already… Integrating it from a developers side is really easy too!

custom input manager

UNDERcontrol developer features:
-Push images to device screen
-Push custom messages to device screen
-Push custom input controls to device screen7

Inputs overview:
-Simple buttons
-Swipe input
-Static and Dynamic virtual joysticks
-Gyroscope detection
-Touchpad input

for more traditional control, theres joypad, which converts an idevice into a gamepad look for it in the app store, you can program for it or you can use the desktop client and make it work like an orinary gamepad with other apps

There is of course also “air mouse”, which will let you use your iphone as a mouse by waving it around wii-mote style. It gets annoying after awhile for real work, but it’s handy for presentations.

Thanks for your answers,
I bought undercontrol and it is perfect for what I wanted to do… thanks very much…

You may also consider R-HUB in-house and secure remote support servers for remote control using iphone or ipad. It supports all platforms such as Windows, Mac, iOS and Android.
