So, my brother and I are making a game and we want to use assets from the asset store and be able to share them via Plastic SCM. Do we have to purchase a team license for each asset to share those files with each other via Plastic SCM? How does this technically work? What stops you from purchasing an individual license and sharing the files with each other. Any help regarding how this works technically or practically is appreciated!
I am not a lawyer, but for me, I only started purchasing seat licenses for the project we intended to release for profit as a company.
As far as plastic (or any other scm), they won’t block you on sharing the asset to others on your team, but only the person that owns it will be able to download and merge in future updates, so keep that work in mind.
Also, I strongly suggest you don’t import the complete assets directly into your main branch. Instead, I always create a separate project for just that asset, export the prefabs and scenes you need from that second project and just import those prefabs, art, assets and scripts back into the main project. This gives you a chance to understand exactly what pieces make up the thing you are importing, as well as it keeps your main project lean.
Again, not a lawyer, so if you and your brother are on the clear path to selling your game, make sure that you’ve purchased enough seat licenses for all members on your team for any asset that requires a per seat license.
