i was looking at daz3d stuff to maybe streamline some cinematics for my game…but i am unfamiliar with them and when reading the purchase agreement and licensing, it appears i could not do that anyway?
It says something about not using in commercial releases. so whats the point of daz3d if you cant use it in your final work?
confused…thought maybe someone else has had experience in this…
You can use daz3d content to produce prerendered movies or pics and play it back on the device. What your are NOT allowed to do, is distribute in any form the data which is part of the content: geometry, textures etc. So no in-gameengine style cinematics using the models and of course not in the game itself…
You can use what you render, but, at least for now, you can’t use the models themselves in a game.
However, a Daz rep appeared at Unite '09 and gave a short presentation about how they’re getting ready to change their licensing model to allow the actual models to be used in realtime 3D games. (YAY!) I believe they’re also going to offer a geometry decimation tool to reduce the polycount to make the models more game-friendly.
