Hi,
I started all of game development things as just hobby. But soon I realize that I have fallen into event horizon:p:p.Now I can not go back and I do not want to! Now I dream of being a good game developer. The more I go deeper the more its gravitational pool become:p:p
Now I can do modeling(hard surface),sculpting, some rigging, some animation,uv mapping and texturing.I also have knowledge in c,c++(well not much), and web developing language like html, css,js,php, mysql. Before I drove myself into unity’s event horizon,I was a lonely planet of “web development” solar system I also tried to understand some opengl, cgfx.Well,it did not work so well.
However,we are consisting of three friends, all of us have same dream of entering new universe through warm-hole:).I and other one are trying to do art things, and other is suppose to do programming. We have not actually done anything to show off in game developing yet.All of our work were scattered like,I did some column sculpting, some machine modeling,Some simple shader writing, some simple scripting etc.I even wrote a mini novel for which I dream to end up with a game story:smile:.But fusing all together,we haven’t done any full level with sound, gameplay etc.So yesterday,I decided to create an awesome work.I said, lets build a simple but epic level from say god of war or prince of persia, those were our fav games all the time.
I have gone a little bit far.I want to use the sound from soundtrack. It is not a commercial work or what so ever.It is just for fun and exercise. So can I use the “blood of three brother.mp3” or “choice of prince.mp3” track to make some fun and youtube it?
If you’re not selling it, their probably not going to bother you too much. They can request that your content be taken off youtube however. There is a lot of fan made stuff circulating the internet so I don’t think it’s much of an issue.
As Khyrid said you can’t re-use it commercially but I don’t think there’ll be any problems posting it on youtube. Be sure to give the credit though for the music.
Thank you Meltdown, I am thinking of “garden of lakhesis” or first stage of pop2008 dlc.I will post progress of it.As of now,I am really mad at zbrush.Polypainting is driving me crazy.anyway, thank you for kind replay.
Using music from a known game is going to cause problems down the line if the game ever gets any hint of success .
Here’s what you do, go on sound cloud and search for dramatic music . Then you don’t have to worry about getting sued or bothered by anyone( most people on soundcloud are cool )
@ keithsoulasa, wow, someone in this world can sue me, just using their music as fun!:( Terrible, pathetic, psychiatric and bad!:( However I did not think in the way you showed.Thank you.I will be more careful. Thanks for sound cloud.I am testing it.Should I change away my avatar too?
There is absolutely nothing terrible, wrong or bad about people protecting their work. That’s why they have copyright to begin with. I’d be angry if someone I didn’t give permission to was giving away my hard work for free and I got nothing but recognition for it.
I do doubt that someone in Dhaka would be able to be sued for using music. Look at The Pirate Bay, in switzerland, is still up and running, because copyrights can’t touch them.
Your avatar doesn’t really matter , its just for a game you never want to think that someone else owns a part of it( as they would if you stole their music) .
@pivotraze
Even if he can’t get sued he can be kicked off any distribution channel for copyright infringement
. Plus its in bad taste to rip off other peoples copyrights .
why not create a music piece yourself, since you are a multitalent (programming, art, modeling, animation)… i guess learning to compose is not that hard for you. little pun
But seriously, do NOT “steal” without the original authors consent. (just as you won’t like it if someone else is going to use your hard work, for their popularity/showoff (which is the goal here)).
@ saymoo,ya you guess the goal rightly.:)
Composing music!!:x Are you kidding me!!:x I can give the words.:p:p
But who in the world will play that in guiter or piano or violin(I really love it,wish I could know it.Heard that it is too hard!)
or flute? I do not know any of those. You were kidding, didn’t you?
@ keithsoulasa, I found sound cloud very interesting. But some of my favorites are not downloadable.
Some are downloadable but can I use them as commercial purpose? Some music have “buy from ###” button. If I buy them, can I use them commercially?
Thanks guys.
tilte as “destroyer of worlds”.I really like this track.I need it.it has “buy on ganxy” button. If I buy from there, can I use it for even commercially?
update:wow,I found even more with creative common license! Thank you keithsoulasa.
Is there any chance of fraud in soundcloud.I mean, lets say, someone upload copyrighted music in their name under “modify commercially”?
For example I find Stream Two steps from hell by stolth | Listen online for free on SoundCloud as suspicious. Can anyone confirm?I think I heard the name somewhere. Can not recall.
Usually the whole point of >buying< music like this is so you can use it commercially.
SoundCloud is nice, but I’d recommend something like ACID Pro, FLStudio or Ableton Live along with a royalty free set of sound loops for your music production.
Sony has a good collection of loops Welcome to MAGIX, and a bunch of other places on the net.
If the above programs seem too complex, there’s also Magix Music Maker which a lot of folks give good reviews on:
There are demos to all the above that I mentioned.
Once you take a week or so and get used to working with music loops, you’ll find yourself freeing up to a good degree your dependence on others for music, and with your ever expanding royalty free collection of loops, your concerns about copyright will fade as well.
It’s funny cause while recently playing XCOM Unknown Enemy, I’ve been hearing a good amount of the loops I purchased from Sony - in particular off their Ambient Grooves disc! (Classic collection)
It’s always cool to hear how others can take a set of loops and use them differently from what you’ve done with them.
ACID Planet (www.acidplanet.com) (dedicated to ACID users) is also a great place to get free “ACID 8Packs” to get your loop collection started.
A lot of programs on the market work with (ACIDized wave files) and lets you create them also. (Not sure about Magix however?)
Here’s a link to a tune I put together back in the day using ACID Pro and nothing but loops:
(Seems to only like IExplorer for playback unless you have the windows media player plugin for your browser)
It’s not hard creating loop based music - quite enjoyable IMO! And what you compose you can call your own!
