Using same mesh in another scene - Meta data

I had been able to reuse meshes in other scenes and apply different materials to them. But since 4.3 i’m getting varying results. I’m guessing it’s because of the meta files. How can I accomplish this? Thanks.

What are the problems? There should be no problems doing this, especially not with meta files (which only handle import settings).

It seems to me a I had copied a folder of mesh’s and a folder of materials to a new project and the mesh’s came into the new scene with the previous material applied. I haven’t had a need to yet again, but i’ll see if I get the same results. Thanks.
