Using two joysticks to manipulate object from two sides on two axes

What would be the best way to setup two on screen joysticks to manipulate one object from each side of it?

If you’ve never played Katamari Damacy, I suggest you find some videos of it… they use two thumbsticks to manipulate a ball, and it’s quite intuitive. BattleZone used a similar scheme with two levers in the early 80s.
