I have been trying to get our project to use 5.1 since the first release candidate however as soon as I started digging through and testing each of our levels, the editor would crash to the desktop. I can lightmap a large scene for 12 hours straight but I hold my breath updating the project and running a scene. Unity doesn’t even have the chance to ask if I want to submit a bug report. Each time a QA supported build has come out I have tested it with our project and notice this issue spanning every 5.1 release. Currently we’re at 5.0.2 and I don’t have any issues, the same could be said for 5.0.1.
I have noticed that on many of the computers that I care for, creating a new user in Windows will alleviate some issues with Unity. For instance on three different occasions after installing Unity 5x where Unity would crash immediately among starting a connection to the asset server and ask if I wanted to send a bug report. All three instance we fixed by creating a separate user and testing to see if it could load the project. Another that I fixed yesterday with a 5.0.2 machine, was crashing and asking for a bug report randomly. Is there temp/cache files stored inside the user folders other than appdata? I tried clearing that with no effect. Also I have yet to test this for my 5.1 installation.
Is anyone else having this issue? I have patched all my compiler errors with plugins and tools and nothing strange shows up in the logs dialog before it happens. This is… really killing me because I know lightmapping and GI updates are coming and I need them. zzz
