Using Unity in final year Multimedia Project - is it hard to learn?

I will be going into final year of BSc MM degree soon. Looking for an original showcase for a web based/Multiformat game with an attractive website.

Unity looks amazing, I am thinking of doing a 3d game web based in unity supported by a social php based network website.

I have experience with actionscript, some javascript and PHP.

Could I learn unity quickly or I am best to base a game in flash? I like unity 3d basis, as I am currently using Maya and enjoy it.

I would hopefully work with another student to produce 3d assets and I would code site and work in unity.

Also could I bring in motion capture tech (akin to xbox connect). I have seen some studies into hacking the connect for games so I am thinking of this as an option.

Any thoughts would be really appreciated on this.

Many thanks

Unity is great for making games. With a little understanding, you could produce a game easily within a day.

Here is a few cool tutorials that you could follow:

3DBuzz Space Shooter game - http://forum.unity3d.com/threads/37093-Over-7-hours-of-Unity-Training-Videos-Download-them-now!
And I believe there are a few other video tutorials, but these were the first ones to come to mind

Hope they help you out,
Mike
