Using unity to build a website.

:?:
How hard would it be for a designer to do so.

Its not a complex website in terms of functions, just like a portfolio show-off.

Doesn’t even need FPS controls, just mouse clicks.
Pre-set locations/cameras
Object interactivity (Like in RPG games when u click on a road-sign or billboard, a message/picture appears.)
Auto play pre-set path on load/idle…maybe (like the island demo).

Would i need the pro version ?

Thanks,

You can do it.

Most likely there’s no point though. 8)

As long as you can live without shadow casting lights and don’t mind having a small Unity logo appear briefly at the beginning, you can do this with the free version.

Keep in mind people will have to download the Unity plugin to view it though - might be a turnoff to some if you’re using it as a portfolio site to attract attention.

you maybe thinking why not since flash is a plugin but flash is forced on people whether they want it or not. its that commonplace, but unity isnt.

it may become that way in the future but not at the moment. maybe build a flash or other 2d site but have a link to the unity 3d version of it

You might want to take a look at this:

Check out the online anatomy demo.

If the website is dedicated to a particular use of 3D or is focused on an interactive system, it might make sense. Doesn’t mean it is going to be easy.

Yeh I’m just gathering ideas now,
But it might be just a portfolio page part of site, as mentioned.

Thanks, I’ll give it a try sometime.
